Prolonged exposure can put you at risk not just from stinging sunburn but from premature aging and skin cancer.
The sunlight reaching us consists of two types of harmful rays. Short wave ultra violet B (UVB) - which burns the outermost layer of the skin, and long wave ultra violet A (UVA) which penetrates your dermis.
An easy way to remember this is to think of B as Burn and A As Aray!!! So, UV-Burn and UV-Aray! Feeling the sting?
And that is why it is essential to apply sunscreen 20 minutes before sun exposure, and to frequently reapply every 4 hours when you find yourself exposed these harmful rays, especially between 10 am and 4pm when the UV-B (Burn) rays are at their peak.
